UPDATE!!! Anesthesia Group Announces Intention to end BCBSM PPO and HMO participation beginning July 16, 2019

Posted: 08/02/2019

The Blues previously informed everyone that Anesthesia Associates of Ann Arbor terminated the contracts of 125 providers of anesthesia services with Blue Cross and Blue Care Network, effective July 16. They have maintained constant contact with the A4 leadership, as well as affected stakeholders, since the group advised them of its termination. The Blues are pleased that they’ve made progress with A4 and the two organizations have come to an agreement for their providers to return to BCBSM and BCN networks with payment aligned to the statewide fee schedule. The Blues recommend that their members continue planning for having medical procedures requiring anesthesia at the affected locations. Finalizing reinstatement for 125 providers to return to the network may take a few weeks. Once A4 signs a billing agreement, BCBSM plans to have an interim process underway to handle claims until full reinstatement of the group is complete.

There are 11 affected hospitals where A4 provided services: from the Trinity System - St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, St. Mary's Mercy Livonia, Mercy Health St. Mary's serving the Grand Rapids area; from the Beaumont system: Beaumont Wayne, Beaumont Dearborn, Beaumont Trenton, Beaumont Taylor; and Forest Health Medical Center in Ypsilanti.

Blue Cross and Blue Care Network want to thank you for your understanding as they worked to resolve this matter.
