MDHHS Initiates Letter Campaign to Reach HMP Members Regarding New 2020 Work Requirements

Posted: 12/13/2019

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services MDHHS began mailing letters this week to over 238,000 Healthy Michigan Plan (HMP) beneficiaries which outline what is needed to comply with the new work requirements effective January 1, 2020.

Beginning on that date, Michigan law will require Healthy Michigan Plan members ages 19 to 62 to work or do other activities, such as job search, for at least 80 hours each month.

HMP beneficiaries who are subject to the work requirements must report work or other activities to MDHHS from January 25 to February 29, 2020 by going to Michigan.gov/MiBridges or calling 1-833-895-4355 and then must continue to do that every month or else they could lose coverage.

Despite a lawsuit filed last month, Michigan is moving forward with the work requirements, and MDHHS is working now to preserve the health insurance coverage of as many beneficiaries as possible.
