New Requirements Coming for Nursing Homes to Report COVID-19 Cases

On April 20, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced new regulatory requirements that will require nursing homes to inform residents, their families and representatives of COVID-19 cases in their facilities.
According to the attached Guidance Memo from CMS, current requirements per 42 CFR 483.30 and CDC guidance specify that nursing homes notify State or Local health department about residents or staff with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, residents with severe respiratory infection resulting in hospitalization or death, or > 3 residents or staff with new-onset respiratory symptoms within 72 hours of each other.
