BCBSM and BCN Electronic Claims Transmission Change Requires Action

Posted: 03/24/2021

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN) are moving to a new secured file transfer platform, or SFTP, Edifecs, for your electronic transmissions. This includes 837 claims, 277CA transactions/reports, 835 ERA, 999 acknowledgements and capitation reports. You may have already seen this information in one of the provider newsletters, including the March 2021 issue of The Record, the March-April issue of BCN Provider News, page 8, or as a provider alert on web-DENIS.

What does this mean for users?

Using a phased migration approach, accounts began transitioning to the new platform in mid-December 2020. A communication of your scheduled migration date will be sent to the contacts BCBSM and BCN have on their EDI system. Please watch for this email. The email subject will be “Update: New EDI File Transfer Platform.” The email will come from EDImigration@bcbsm.com. If you think you may have missed this email, please contact EDIMigration@bcbsm.com.

They ask that you coordinate with your vendor/billing contact prior to your scheduled migration date to allow for uninterrupted service. BCBSM and BCN requires a response from your billing contact to transition to the new platform.

The current platform is scheduled to be retired this year with migrations happening through the end of April. As the migration continues, end users will receive additional communications advising what actions are needed from them, including when the current platform will be retired. You will also want to watch for broadcast messages as they post updates.

This change does not affect Internet Claim Tool users.
