Michigan Collaborative for Type 2 Diabetes: Expanding CGM Coverage

Posted: 09/08/2022

The mission of the Michigan Collaborative for Type 2 Diabetes (MCT2D) is to work with primary care physicians to prevent and reverse the progression of type 2 diabetes. One of MCT2D’s key initiatives is to expand the use of continuous glucose monitors (CGM) for diabetes control in the primary care setting. Members of MCT2D have reported coverage for these devices as a key barrier to expanded use in their practice. MCT2D has been working with insurance payers to advocate at a collaborative-scale for expanded coverage of CGMs. MCT2D has recently reported two victories in coverage with United Healthcare and Blue Cross Complete. In both cases, the payors have relaxed the criteria for coverage to allow easier prescribing and better coverage for patients. To read more about the expanded coverage click here.
