Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Unwinding PHE Policies

As the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services plan to expire the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency on May 1, 2023, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued a Bulletin on April 7, 2023, that included details on unwinding policies that were enacted during the COVID-19 PHE as the authority for these policies are set to expire.

The bulletin listed unwinding on policies for the following:

  • Durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and medical supplies
  • Hospital transfers and non-emergency ambulance transports
  • Pharmacy coverages
  • Coverage of Monoclonal antibody COVID-19 infusions by advanced life support EMS agencies
  • Coverage of monoclonal antibody COVID-19 infusions by home health agencies
  • COVID-19 vaccine services
  • Additional vaccine services
  • Care and recovery centers and COVID-19 relief facilities
