Blue Cross Continues to Pay Claims During Union Work Stoppage

Posted: 09/13/2023

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has experienced a work stoppage with their UAW-represented workforce. While they work to reach a labor agreement, please be assured that BCBSM will continue to process and pay your health care claims.

Your provider offices should continue to submit claims as normal. BCBSM will process and reimburse health care practitioners throughout the work stoppage. All of the benefits and billing requirements remain the same.

Blue Cross Provider Inquiry telephone lines are available but may have longer than normal wait times. They encourage your providers to check patient eligibility and benefits and check on their prior claims using the provider portal (availity.com).

Blue Care Network is not included in the work stoppage.

Click here to view the provider alert that BCBSM have posted in their provider portal and on ereferrals.bcbsm.com. Please share this with your provider offices. They’ll will send out special edition issues of The Record and Hospital and Physician Update, but they know that not all of their providers are subscribed to these publications.
